losing STEAM.

:: losing STEAM ::

You may have noticed that it has been about a month since I have last posted here on Epic Change…

Let me offer my sincere apologies for those of you who have been hankering for some fresh posts of thoughts, proses and quotes.  I am VERY aware of certain ‘blogosphere etiquette’ that dictates the need to be writing consistently, so as not to frustrate your faithful reading followers.

But, the problem is,  (let’s put it this way)  I was ‘losing steam.’

You see – I LOVE to write.  I feel like things become so much clearer to me when I point my fingers at a keyboard, or pad of paper, and channel my thoughts towards such things. I have quite an affection for well written words – for they can, when written from the heart, change lives.

Yet to write words that change lives, you must be open to them changing your own life. You cannot give away that which you do not first have yourself. I’ve learned that words written from the mind may tickle minds, but words written from things experienced deep in the realms of your heart will change hearts.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, for whatever reason, there hasn’t been much change in ME recently. Call it cruise control. Call it stagnancy. Call it whatever you want.

But it is simply not sufficient. For writing. Or for a life that is full in Jesus.

Hence the theme of this blog: losing STEAM.

The words of a mentor of mine are bellowing deep in my consciousness tonight; ‘The world is FULL of many good starters, but FEW good finishers… be one of the FEW.’

How true.  Just about everyone starts out with a good head of steam. Big dreams. Lofty desires. Good intentions. Fully engaged. Fully strong. Fully forward. But, somewhere along the way, many falter. They lose strength. They lose desire. They lose hope. They lose reason.

Have you ever been there before? Maybe you’re there with me at my side today…

There IS hope for all who desire to break out of this rusty cage. But it is a prickly hope, for it depends just about ENTIRELY on YOU to do so.

We can talk (or write) about it all we want. We can pray about it until we’ve exhausted the ears of God. But to be changed, we must step out and push forward in change.

We must GAIN BACK our steam again. For a life of anything else is just not enough.

Be encouraged today, as I am, to ‘pick up your mat’ and get moving. For just as Jesus asked the man at the Pool of Bethesda “Do you want to get well?”, I believe He is asking the same question to us.

“Do YOU want to …….?”

Of course you do. And so do I – which means you will be seeing a lot of me back here again on Epic Change…

  1. Hi Jeff! I’ve linked you to my blog and I’m so happy to discover you’re back to blogging, because I do like reading. Welcome back and hope to hear from you soon.
    Wishing you all the best!

  2. So, just a few minutes ago i finish writing a entry in my blog about, what it takes to change and continue to move forward. The entry is pretty much random thoughts. I totally agree, it is up to us to keep moving, to challenge ourselves in new area, so that we don’t burn out instead our fire increase to a blazing roaring flame, and we keep throwing wood in to keep it going. Fires can go out pretty quickly when left to settle or coast. well, it is true in my life. I have been letting it out on without attentions for a while now, there hasn’t been much change in me.

  3. Pj, I’d have to say this is one of my favorite blogs…how authentic you are blows me away. I appreciate your honesty because I tend to fall into the same boat…or rut I guess you could say…it’s good to know we’re not alone on such a journey.
    Thanks for your authenticity.
You are an incredible man of God- a man with PURPOSE and DESTINY written all over him…and you have a pretty incredible wife too ;)
    Thank you!
