be STILL.

I think it’s safe to say that time is one of our (if not the number one) most precious commodities these days.

I can’t even count how many people I’ve asked, “how’ve you been doing lately?” – and been met with the answer “I am SO busy”. 24 hours are not enough for a day. 7 days are not enough for a week. 52 weeks are not… well, you get the picture. Many of us are working tirelessly to shove, cram and pack so much into our days – just to keep our proverbial ‘heads above water’. Multi-tasking is the order of the day, and a necessary evil, it seems, to stay ahead of the curve.

I came across a CRAZY story this week of a woman in Ohio who was actually arrested for multi-tasking! Read it below, and you will surely get a kick out of it. (click here for full story)

Police in Ohio say a woman has been charged with child endangerment after another motorist reported she was both breast-feeding the youngster and talking on a phone while driving.

Officer Michael Burke says authorities used a license plate number to track down the 39-year-old mother. Burke said the legal concern is that Compton had a child in her lap while driving, and that the child was under 2 years old. The woman faces up to 180 days in jail and a $1,800 fine if convicted of the misdemeanor.

Talk about multi-tasking – I can’t even believe she made it home in her car! I have a hard enough time paying attention to the road when I’m only talking on my cell phone using a wireless bluetooth headset… let alone, well you know.

Anyways, I wanted to share a verse with you, that is relevant on this topic, out of Psalm 46:10. It says ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’

I think stillness is hard for us.

We’re always putting our hands to something. We’re always putting our thoughts to something. And, in the few moments of rest we do actually get, we end up inviting something less than uplifting wash over us and numb us into getting ready to climb into bed, to face it all again tomorrow. Maybe that cable show at night, or radio program during the ride to work, or a couple hours of internet and Facebook.

BUT – what if we learned stillness? What if we were able to carve out a few moments of our day, without to-do lists, without cell phones, without computers, and without TVs? What if we were able to give God a few silent moments, to fill our hearts, minds and spirits with a fresh impartation?

I think it would make an incredible difference.

I think if we all learned the art of being still we would hear from the Holy Spirit much more frequently.
