On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month (TODAY), Canadians are asked to pause and remember the thousands of men and women who sacrificed their lives fighting for freedom and democracy during the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Afghanistan conflict and during peacekeeping missions.
During the First World War (1914-1918), more than 600,000 Canadian soldiers volunteered to serve in combat overseas. The first Remembrance Day, held in 1919 throughout the Commonwealth, was called Armistice Day. The day commemorated the end of the First World War on Monday, Nov. 11, 1918, at 11 a.m. — the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
In honour of the millions of Canadian soldiers who fought for our freedom, and the tens of thousands who purchased it with their lives, I am uploading this post at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to thank all of those soldiers, both living and passed away, for their brave service to our country and the world.
Today… I remember.
